Splitting Your Marketing Dollars
The internet has become the way that most people find information, network with their friends, communicate, make money, play games, entertain, and market products and services.
If you're not already, you should start thinking about your marketing efforts on the web. The first step is to get a website. The next step is to formulate a plan on how to drive traffic to your website.
The current rule of thumb is that you should be splitting your marketing dollars each year and spending a portion on Internet Marketing. We are hearing more and more stories of clients spending thousands of dollars each year on phone book ads and getting worse and worse results. This is because more people are using the internet than a phonebook.
SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
SEO is one of the best ways to be able to start driving traffic to your website. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. The goal of SEO is for your website to show up on the first page of Google, Yahoo, and Bing when a potential customer searches for words or phrases relevant to your business. For example, if someone goes to Google and types in Self Storage In **your city**, does your website show up?
How does SEO work?
While there are many factors that contribute to SEO, here are some of the most basic concepts:
Website Content: One of the most important tactics for SEO is the content on your website. Are you adding new content regularly? Is the content relevant? Do you have keywords on your website that help search engines know who you are?
Links on your Website: Another Important tactic for SEO is linking from your website to other websites related to what you do. This can also be internal links on your website that link to other pages of your site. It is important to create a spiderweb of links.
Backlinks: Back links are links from 3rd party websites back to your site. This shows the search engines that your site is relevant and most likely not a scam. Search engines love these links and they help grow your spider web of links and content surrounding your website.
Meta Keywords and Meta Descriptions: If you have hired your own SEO consultant or Web Designer, they can enter keywords on each of your website pages by going to Website> Pages> click 'Edit' for each page. Scroll down and you will see two fields for Meta Keywords and Meta Descriptions.
